I listened to a couple of colleagues of mine having a discussion about the lack of discipline shown by our new crop of employees being hired on. They seemed to work them selves into an almost frenzy as they tried to outdo one another with examples of complete buffoonery on the part of the latest wave of cattle. I have to admit I did manage a chortle or two myself. They had no idea I was listening, I just went about my business, but due to proximity I would hear their stories till the end. There was something about this conversation that wanted me to involve myself, but I’m older now. Observation has become a hobby like fishing. If you go fishing with a radio expect to your catch to be mediocre.
The company is having a hard time retaining employees and there is much thought about how that could be.
Wrote a whole bunch of stuff but canned it because the need to work outweighs anything witty I might add about the state of modern manufacturing.
Since the beginning of time the number one reason why any group has failings is because of poor communications. Never worked for any outfit where that wasn’t said daily. Seems like the only thing that CAN be effectively communicated is how bad the communications are.
The only way I think you can improve communication is by letting individuals know its ok to not know. That a lack of information means you are operating the way you are supposed to. When you take a human and make them believe their worth comes from what they know you say to those that don’t that they have no meaning. No worth.
It’s a shame that sometimes the most ignorant get paid the most.
We have made another attempt to set up a studio in the basement. It smells like a basement but its such a great space. I spend so little time doing anything creative that I feel the need to push myself a bit.
Learning new things is fun but I have a new electronic instrument that is way smarter than I am.
I write, play music, take photos, paint (very infrequently), draw (even more infrequently). I only have one fan really, my wife Mindy, and she goes along with it for the most part. I’m not entirely sure I could ever make anything of any of it. I’m not entirely sure that I should.
That might sound bleak if not for the fact that is precisely the reason I continue.
If creating means you feel it… please continue. Don’t stop. Its only suppose to mean something to you. If you can make something that forces you to remember or helps you to forget. If you can make a sound that makes you think of colors, or see a shade that reminds you of your childhood, don’t you know how special that is?
Some people have been enormously successful at packaging their talents and offering them for sale. Some have been lucky enough to have those who notice and help them to achieve something. But the best art that has ever existed has never been heard or seen. Its just out there. I like that. Like undiscovered stars radio communicating with one another. Waiting with a bright light that extinguishes just a little everyday. Knowing that energy might change form but not escape. On some infinite atomic level we all blend.
As I return to work tomorrow I will remember that not knowing is as important as knowing.
Will acknowledge that between stars exists a lot of empty space that can obscure but not eliminate.
Small minds talk about others.
Fishing isn’t always about catching fish.
I’m glad I took the time to write to you today. Eat something good!
